Pedestrian hit by car on Kentucky Ave

A pedestrian was taken to Baptist Health Corbin Thursday afternoon after he was hit by an SUV while attempting to cross First Street in Corbin.

12-14-vehicle-v-pedCorbin Police identified him as 67-year-old Ralph Wilson of Corbin. Corbin Police Colonel David Maiden said the driver of the SUV, identified as Chris Webb, told him, that as he approached the stop sign on West First Street at the intersection with Kentucky Ave, he could see the pedestrian standing on the corner.

As Webb checked the traffic and began to cross Kentucky Ave., the man reportedly stepped off the sidewalk and Webb was unable to avoid striking him.

Corbin firefighters and Whitley EMS treated Wilson at the scene, after which he was taken to by ambulance to the hospital.

Police say he is being transferred from Baptist Health Corbin.

Traffic on Kentucky Ave. was reduced to one lane as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
