Steve Dillard, Law Enforcement Liaison with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, spoke during a press conference Friday afternoon at the Tennessee Welcome Center in Jellico about plans to increase traffic enforcement in both Tennessee and Kentucky during the Hands Across the Border campaign that will take place this summer.
Kentucky and Tennessee have each seen an increase in traffic fatalities so far in 2016 with seat belt use continuing to be an issue in both states.
About 45 percent of Tennessee’s fatalities and 52 percent of Kentucky’s fatalities are unbelted.
Those in attendance included: Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird, Detective Bobby Freeman, Kentucky State Police Post 11 Capt. Glenn Dalton, Post 11 Public Affairs Officer Lloyd Cochran and KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Steve Douglas.
