Police investigating theft from cars at Corbin movie theater

Date:

Corbin Police and owners of the Tri-County Cineplex are trying to figure out who broke into four vehicles Sunday evening in the business’ parking lot, targeting only purses in the process.
Cineplex manager Susie Razmus said it seemed to her that the thieves had one thing in mind when they broke the windows out of four vehicles, three in the parking lot of her business and one in the lot of nearby Applebee’s.
“They were obviously after money because apparently all they took was purses,” Razmus said. “The really bad part for me was that a close friend was down here visiting and her vehicle was one of those that was broken into.
“They had a DVD player, an iPod and several things in the car of value, but all they took was the purse,” she added. “That tells you it was someone after cash or credit cards.”
While she was apologetic that the incidents happened on the Cineplex property, Razmus said she and her crew were taking measures to try and prevent this from happening again.
“We are going to increase patrol in the parking lot for sure,” she said. “We have also posted signs asking folks to please not leave their purses in the vehicle. Put them in the trunk.
“The funny thing is that during this little time, not one person stepped outside to smoke a cigarette or to check their phone like they seemingly always do,” she added. “This just must have happened in one quick kind of sweep.”
Corbin Police Department is investigating the incident and anyone with information can contact Rusty Hedrick or Jason Moore at the Police Department at 528-1122.
