Police investigating Whitley teen’s death

Date:

A Whitley County teen died last week from a suspected drug overdose and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.
The Laurel County Coroner’s Office pronounced 17-year-old Jamie Joseph Rebis, of Dow Road, dead at the home of family members in southern Laurel County last Thursday morning. According to Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Buddy Blair, officials believe Rebis may have taken methadone before his death. Methadone is commonly used to treat other chemical addictions.
A pill bottle was found near Rebis’ body during the investigation. A toxicology test has been ordered to determine if the drug, or others, was responsible for his death.
Authorities in Whitley County also began an investigation into Rebis’ death, but quickly turned the case over to Laurel County officials. It is believed Rebis’ may have obtained the prescription drug in Whitley County before going to Laurel County.
