Public memorial scheduled for Corbin doctor

Date:

A public memorial has been planned for a doctor who died last year after battling COVID-19.

A memorial to celebrate, “the legacy and 60th birthday of Dr. Mohammad Jawed,” is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Corbin Arena on Aug. 2.

Jawed was recognized last year by Gov. Andy Beshear, who said, “Dr. Jawed truly was a hero, battling multiple myeloma, a cancer that affected his plasma cells, over the last two years while continuing to work as a frontline health care worker, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. He dedicated his life to supporting his family and caring for his patients.”

He was the founder of Bluegrass Medical Center LLC in Corbin.

Jawed was 59 years old.
