REDHOUND VOLLEYBALL

Date:

Corbin made it look easy Monday night by defeating the Rockcastle County Lady Rockets 25-15, 25-17 at Gilliam Gym. "I was a little surprised how we played in that first game because we were a little nervous going in," Corbin Coach Liberty Roberts said.

In the first game, Corbin jumped out to a 11-4 lead and never looked back. After a time-out the Lady Rockets pulled within 12-7, but that was the closest they would come. They came within 15-10 before Corbin put the game away behind the play of Vanessa Wiseman and Allison Worthy. The Lady Redhounds went on a 6-2 run and led 21-12 before Rockcastle called their second time-out of the game.

Wiseman, a senior, put the game with with the last four points, two of those were aces.

Rockcastle County took a brief 1-0 lead in the second set only to see Corbin scored the next four points. An ace by Wiseman pushed Corbin ahead, 7-3. However, the Lady Rockets did mount and rally and took a 13-12 lead. It didn’t rattle the Lady Redhounds as Corbin went on a 5-1 run and took a 17-13 lead before the Lady Rockets took a timeout.

The visitors pulled within two (18-16), but a strong finish by the Lady Redhounds gave Corbin a 25-17 win. Leading 21-17, the Lady Redhounds scored the final four points as Wiseman had two kills.

The Lady Redhounds will be in the First Priority Classic at Whitley County Friday and Saturday.
