Robbery charges filed over PlayStation

Date:

A fight over a PlayStation game console has led to the arrest of two local men on robbery charges.

Twenty-two-year-old Jonathan Wood of Rockholds and 25-year-old Freddy Smith of Corbin have each been charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred May 4 at the victim, Jason Prindle’s residence on Bright Street in Corbin.

According to Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, the trio was playing games just after midnight when a fight ensued. Wood and Smith allegedly struck Prindle multiple times in the head before taking the Play Station and fleeing the scene.

Jones said he had no details on what caused the fight.

Prindle was treated for his injuries at Baptist Health Corbin and released a few hours later.

Corbin Police Officer Wade Mitchell took a report and an arrest warrant was issued for Wood and Smith.

Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Kirk Mays arrested Wood on May 16. Wood is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

Mitchell arrested Smith outside the Kroger grocery store at Corbin Station in Knox County Saturday night. Smith is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $15,000 cash bond.

The case is expected to be presented to a Whitley County grand jury when it meets on June 2.

Under Kentucky Law, first-degree robbery is defined as, “ in the course of committing theft, he uses or threatens the immediate use of physical force upon another person with intent to accomplish the theft…”
