Rodney Edward Johnson departed this life and made his way to his heavenly home in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026.
Rodney died at his home in Straw Plains, Tennessee surrounded by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Geraldine (Burkhart) Johnson, and his father, William Robert Johnson.
He is survived by his three sons, William Rodney Johnson of Straw Plains, Tennessee, Byron Alexander Johnson and Michael Kyle Anderson both of Seymour, Tennessee and his five beautiful grandchildren, Sheridan Joseph Johnson, Bryon Alexander Johnson Jr., Aubree Mae Johnson, Brynlee Grace Johnson, and Nezuko Virginia Lynn Johnson, and his sister, DeAnna Johnson Perkins, brother-in-law James Perkins, as well as his two nieces, Jordyn Lyndsey Perkins and Jennifer Kaylyn Perkins, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Born April 3, 1972, he spent most of his childhood in Harlan County. He grew up at the Mary Helen Schoolhouse that his father converted into their family home. After graduating from James A. Cawood High School, he married Harlan native Sherrie Nolan. Together they had William and Byron. Rodney ensured that the boys grew up playing sports, video games and had everything they needed. He loved his sons more than life itself.
Several years after moving to Tennessee, a third son joined the family. While he may not have been there for his first steps or words, Michael was dearly loved by Rodney.
Rodney spent more than 30 years working for Emco Williams, Inc.
Despite being in Vols Country, Rodney bled blue. His love for the University of Kentucky wildcats was evident. While his favorite sport was basketball, he rooted for the Big Blue no matter the sport, especially when they played Tennessee.
Rodney did not have a home church, but even in his final days, he referred to Jesus as his friend.
Funeral services will be hosted at both the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevier County, Tennessee and at the London Funeral Home in Laurel County, Kentucky. Rev. Dennis Williams will officiate the London Service. Visitation in London will begin at noon Saturday, Feb. 21 with funeral service and burial to follow.
Rodney will be buried at the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.
