Shoplifter ate evidence, police say

Date:

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies say a Corbin woman accused of shoplifting at Walmart Monday night ate some of the evidence.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Deputy Larry Parrott arrested 28-year-old Vanessa Vaughn, who had been detained by Walmart loss prevention.

Loss prevention had allegedly observed Vaughn concealing items in her purse and detained her as she attempted to leave the store with the items.

“In addition, this subject was observed consuming a doughnut and an energy drink in the store that have not been paid for,” Acciardo stated.

Vaughn was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Vaughn has been released on her own recognizance.
