Six injured in Wednesday night crash on I-75

Six people were injured Wednesday night in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75.

whitley-co-wreck-for-webAccording to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, the wreck occurred about 9:40 p.m. near the 8-mile marker when a minivan and a Fiat car collided, causing the van ro leave the roadway, roll down a steep embankment and come to a rest on its side.

Five people inside the van along with the driver of the Fiat were all taken to area hospitals by Whitley County EMS and Campbell County, Tenn. EMS crews.

The names of the people involved were not available.

However, deputies stated the Fiat was from Florence and the minivan was from Ohio.

One lane of I-75 remained closed for more than an hour.

Deputies say neither drug nor alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Deputy Joe Prewitt is continuing the investigation.

South Whitley Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
