UPDATED: State trooper being flown from scene of crash

A Kentucky State Police trooper was flown from the scene of a crash on Interstate 75 Tuesday morning.

Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, identified the trooper as Houston E. Lewis, who is assigned to Post 13 in Hazard.

“He lives in Laurel County and was on his way to training in Frankfort,” Cochran said of Lewis.

Cochran said details are still sketchy, but Houston, lost control of his cruiser just north of exit 41 and went over a 150-foot embankment.

Lewis was airlifted from the scene and is listed in critical condition.

“He was alert and speaking when they put him on the chopper,” Cochran said.

Northbound I-75 was closed to traffic in order to land the helicopter and while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

Lewis graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy in October 2016.
