Suspect accused of assaulting hospital nurse, guard remains jailed in lieu of $7,500 bond

Date:

A Corbin man remains incarcerated in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $7,500 cash bond after allegedly assaulting a nurse and a security guard at Baptist Health Corbin last week.

Andrew Worley, 27, pleaded not guilty to charges of third-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct and public intoxication controlled substance excludes alcohol during his arraignment last week in Whitley District Court.

Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Worley, and a Nov. 6 preliminary hearing is scheduled in his case.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. Corbin Police Cpl. Kenneth Proffitt and Patrick responded to a call about an assault that occurred in the emergency department by a patient, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs, Patrick wrote on the arrest citation.

When police arrived, hospital security staff notified them that Worley had allegedly struck a nurse in the face and a security guard while they were trying to treat him, according to the citation.

“Worley stated he was in an altercation with the staff, but that he did not punch anyone, Patrick wrote on the citation.

Worley was “manifestly under the influence,” and allegedly told police that he took Adderall. While at the scene, Worley allegedly cussed multiple members of the staff and yelled extremely loudly drawing other patient’s attention, according to his arrest citation.

He was arrested without incident, according to a Corbin Police Department release.

Patrolman Zachary Johnson, Patrolman Christopher Brown, and Baptist Health security assisted at the scene.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Worley remained incarcerated in the Whitley County Detention Center, according to the detention center’s website.
