The Dukes of Hazzard Replica Car Jumps Over Fountain in Somerset

Date:

What’s more American than bald eagles, barbecues, and baseball combined? Jumping the General Lee. Since the Dukes of Hazzard television show dominated television in the ’80s, nothing gathers a crowd like seeing that orange ’69 Charger sore through the air like a comet straight out of Hazzard County. While many General Lee jumps include fireballs to make for an incredible spectacle, one daredevil opted for water instead when he jumped the public square fountain in Somerset, Kentucky. Maybe a change of elements, but the results were every bit as spectacular and intense as the car blew into pieces when it hit the ground, barreling toward a cameraman.

Actors from the show were there

According to Variety, over 35,000 people were there to watch the stunt take place, but it wasn’t just fans who lined the streets of Somerset.

John Schneider and Byron Cherry, the actors who played Bo and Coy Duke respectively, and are the guys who drove the iconic car in The Dukes of Hazzard, were at the event signing autographs for fans.

“Ray hooked me up with [the event director], and that’s how I got here, and then Schneider heard about it, and he’s here,” Cherry said. “I have little kids out there, 3, 4, 5 years old … [who] know the show better than I know it. It’s just a blessing to be part of history.”
