The Impossible

Date:

The Williamsburg Lady Jackets saw their season come to an end as the Knox Central Lady Panthers pulled the upset, 51-45.
Despite committing 27 turnovers, the Lady Panthers won the game from the line, hitting 22 of 41 free throws compared to the 13 free throws by Williamsburg. The Lady Jackets hit 8 of the 13.
“Evidently if you play physical you are reward and if you play with finesse you not reward, so maybe that’s where the game is different from what I have been used to coaching,” said Williamsburg coach Jim Rains. “I just don’t know if I can do this anymore,” he added.
“We played hard, just didn’t play smart and played well at some points of the game,” added Rains.
The Lady Jackets (14-10) owned a 11 point lead (19-8) early in the second quarter when senior Jennifer Shelley hit back to back baskets.
However, Knox Central went on a 11-2 run and cut the lead to two points at the half, 21-19. Seven of those points came at the free throw line.
Knox Central tied the game with the first basket of the third period but Williamsburg went on a 10-3 run and led 31-24 before Lady Panthers came back.
