The Corbin Tourism Commission met on August 12 to discuss significant updates related to the Kentucky Travel Industry Association (KTIA) site visit, the potential use of a new app called Eventeny to manage vendor applications, and ongoing road construction on I-75 and Cumberland Falls Highway.
During the meeting, Corbin Tourism Interim Executive Director Emily Roberts reported that former Executive Director Nancy Conley had proposed hosting the 2027 Spring Travel Forum for KTIA in Corbin. Representatives from KTIA were on a site visit, and the commission hopes to receive news of their selection soon.
“This is very exciting. I think it went well,” Roberts remarked, noting that the event could bring 200 visitors from across Kentucky to Corbin, where they would stay in local hotels, dine at restaurants, and enjoy various attractions for several days.
The commission also explored the possibility of using the Eventeny app to streamline the management of vendor applications, payments, and approvals for local festivals, including the Kentucky Colonel Fest and OctoberFest.
Additionally, the board approved sending staff members to a two-day grant writing workshop hosted by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network in London on Oct. 22-23. This training will cover topics such as funding searches, proposal writing, budgeting, and evaluation methods.
The commission informed attendees about ongoing road construction on I-75, which will involve widening the road from four to six lanes, starting at mile marker 23.2 in Whitley County and extending to mile marker 28.9 in Laurel County. They also discussed the Cumberland Falls Highway project, stating that it will include repaving.
