Tuesday Night Soccer Highlights: Corbin Lady Hounds advance to regional finals

dsc_0193The 49th District champion Corbin Lady Hounds improved their season record to 11-10 Tuesday night, advancing to this year’s 13th Region championship game with a 10-0 victory over Harlan County.

Junior Carly Stone got the scoring started against the Lady Bears with a goal at the 25:56 mark in the first half of play. Stone then made it 2-0 with a second goal at 18:26.

Corbin extended its lead to 3-0 thanks to a goal by senior Kara Grisell at 7:29, and that was followed about a minute later by a goal from junior Abby Baker.

Junior Nikki Wells scored on a penalty kick at 4:09, and she scored again with 2:00 left in the half to put the Lady Hounds up 6-0. Another goal by Baker about 40 seconds later made it 7-0 going into halftime.

Junior Savannah Finley made the most of a penalty kick opportunity in the second half, scoring at the 33:29 mark. Sophomore Amber Troy scored at 28:23, and then fellow sophomore Sarah Fryer added the tenth and final goal at 21:55.

The defending region champion Lady Hounds will now face North Laurel in this year’s regional title game, scheduled to take place Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. at Corbin Primary School. This game will be a rematch from last week’s 49th District tournament finals.
