Former Kentucky basketball star Kyle Macy drew a large crowd at the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Corbin Center on Tuesday, Sept. 9, where he signed copies of his book and shared words of inspiration with local athletes.

Macy, who helped lead the Wildcats to the 1978 NCAA championship, discussed his new book, From the Rafters of Rupp. The book features stories and photos of the University of Kentucky’s greatest basketball players.

Corbin Economic Development Executive Director Bruce Carpenter opened the meeting by thanking Pride Industries for sponsoring the luncheon and Old Town Grill for catering the event.

Macy talked about his new book and said, “If you are a Kentucky basketball fan, it’s something I think you will enjoy. You’ll learn about Kentucky basketball tradition and what got it to where it is today.”

He also offered advice on how to be successful, emphasizing the importance of discipline and focus. He challenged the audience to consider whether they are leaders or followers, stating, “To be successful, you’ve got to be both.”

Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Lisa Harrison announced several new members, including RTEC, Dr. P’s Auto Clinic, Bellator Roofing and Restoration, Build Inclusion, All American Manufacturing, Restylz Consignment Store, LDRM, and Holston Gas. New corporate sponsors include The Mint Gaming Hall, Cumberland Run, the University of the Cumberlands (UC), the Center for Professional Development at UC, Wallens Towing, and Senator Stivers.

The next luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11:45 AM at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center, featuring Dr. Quentin Young, President of the University of the Cumberlands, as the guest speaker.
