Update: W’burg Independent School evacuated due to bomb threat

Update: The Williamsburg Police Department announced shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday that the Williamsburg Independent School building had been searched and no hazardous or explosive devices were found. The Williamsburg Police Department is continuing the investigate.

The Williamsburg Police Department is currently investigating a bomb threat at Williamsburg Independent School.

Williamsburg Police are currently on the scene as are members of the Williamsburg Fire Department and Whitley County EMS.

“All students have been evacuated. We ask that parents and guardians please follow the instructions on the city school’s ALL CALL system,” the Williamsburg Police Department wrote on its Facebook page.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the school district announced that it was starting to release students, who were all taken to Main Street Baptist Church, which is next door to the school.

“If you wish to check your student out, you can do that from the church. Students who are transported home by the school will be released at a later time,” the school posted in a release.

Additional details will be released at a later time.
