Vandal(s) set small fire inside Corbin Kmart

Corbin Police are searching for the individual(s) who set fire to a clothing rack at Kmart Friday morning.

Corbin Police Interim Chief Rusty Hedrick said police suspect someone used a lighter to set fire to the price tags on several pieces of clothing in the infants department.

“The whole rack didn’t go up,” Hedrick said. “It was just a couple of items.

Corbin firefighters were called to the scene about 10:30 a.m. in response a report of a fire in the clothing department.

Store employees used a fire extinguisher to douse the blaze. Firefighters set up ventilation fans to blow the smoke out of the building.

Hedrick said the store was closed for approximately one hour.

Hedrick said store managers are in the process of compiling the surveillance video in an effort to identify the perpetrator(s).

“We are actually going to charge them with arson,” Hedrick said when asked what charges the individual(s) would face.

No one was injured in the incident.
