The Williamsburg Little League program has grown significantly this year with each division having at least one more team that last year.
Williamsburg City Council member Patty Faulkner estimated that the program is seeing a 25 percent increase over last year with a total of about 175 children taking part.
She told the council during its regular monthly meeting Monday that the officials aren’t sure why the program has grown so much this year, but that Little League officials are glad that it has.
“The great thing is just the number of kids that have come out this year,” Faulkner said.
Last season each divisions had four teams.
This year the wee ball division has six teams, the tee ball, coach pitch and player pitch each have five teams.
Opening day for Little League is May 7 starting about 10 a.m.
It’s not too late to sign up to play.
“We will not turn anybody away,” Faulkner added.
Coaches and volunteers are still needed.
