Alcohol involvement is suspected and one person is behind bars in connection with an early Wednesday evening shooting, which took place on KY 1481 about five miles north of Williamsburg, according to an arrest citation and the jail’s website.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Tyson Lawson arrested Charles West Jr., 41, of Williamsburg, and charged him with first-degree assault in connection with the incident.

“The above subject (West) appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and kept saying without being questioned on the way to jail (that) it was self-defense and admitted to shooting the victim,” Lawson wrote on the arrest citation.
