A Williamsburg woman died Monday morning when she lost control of her SUV and struck a guardrail on Interstate 75 in Corbin.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley identified the woman as 35-year-old Mary Rose-Wilson.
Croley said Wilson was on her way to work at Cracker Barrel.
Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, said witnesses told police that Wilson was travelling north on the interstate near the 26-mile marker about 7:10 a.m. when a wheel came off of her Nissan Xterra SUV.
The vehicle swerved out of control and struck the guardrail, ejecting Wilson from the vehicle.
“She was not wearing a seat belt,” Jones said of Wilson.
Croley pronounced the Wilson dead at the scene at 7:20 a.m., listing the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
No autopsy will be performed. However, Croley said a blood toxicology test is standard procedure is all fatal crashes to rule out the use of alcohol or drugs.
While the results will take approximately two weeks to come back, Croley said there is nothing to suggest either was a factor in the crash.
Northbound traffic on the interstate was shut down for almost two hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
The interstate reopened about 9 a.m.
Corbin firefighters also responded to the scene.
