Whitley Co. Sheriff reports busy month of May

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department had a busy month of May.

During the month, sheriff’s deputies answered 1,021 calls for service and responded to 35 motor vehicle collisions.

The sheriff’s department also opened 49 new cases, and it made 85 criminal arrests in May.

“We continue to see a heavy call volume through the Whitley County 911 call center. We answer each call on a priority response basis, as well as work traffic stops, serve court related paperwork and serve criminal arrest warrants each day,” Sheriff Todd Shelley said in a release.

During 2021, the sheriff’s department has answered 5,932 calls for service, responded to 161 motor vehicle collisions, opened 221 new cases, and made 458 criminal arrests.

“As a reminder, 911 is for emergency assistance. For non-emergency assistance, please call 549-6017,” Shelley added.
