Whitley County Golden Alert has happy ending

Date:

Officials are unsure how he did it, but a man reported missing in a Golden Alert Wednesday night walked to Corbin where he was found Thursday morning.

“He was dirty, but he was fine,” Sheriff Colan Harrell said of 40-year-old Emanuel Felipe Herrara, who was found about 10:20 a.m. when a call came in from Phoenix House in Corbin that he was there.”

“The people at Phoenix House didn’t say how long he had been there, just that he was there,” Harrell added.

Herrara was reported missing from his home on Elbert Lane at 10:40 p.m. In the alert, officials noted Herrara suffers from a mental order and takes medication to treat it.

“He just left,” Harrell said, noting there were not reports of an argument or altercation of any kind.

Law enforcement, firefighters and anyone else trained in search and rescue operations who were available began searching the area in and around Williamsburg.

Harrell said Herrara slept on a riverbank Wednesday night as he made his way to Corbin, with Phoenix House as his destination.

“It would have had to have been his destination because of where Phoenix House is at,” Harrell said of the residential facility for people who are mentally challenged or mentally ill.
