Whitley deputies go looking for wanted person, find meth

Date:

Two people were arrested at a residence on Ky. 26 in Rockholds Thursday night after Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies reported finding “Ice” methamphetamine and Suboxone and a handgun inside.

According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, deputies arrested 31-year-oold Nancy A. Slayer and 35-year-old Lowell Salyer on drug-related charges.

Deputies were called to the scene about 9 p.m. after receiving a tip that an individual wanted for arrest could be located in a camper behind the residence.

Sgt. Kirk Mays, Deputy Andrew Lawson and Constable Ron Bowling responded and asked the individuals, later identified as Lowell and Nancy Salyer, to step out of the trailer.

Both reportedly initially gave deputies false names. However, when their identities were determined, deputies learned that Nancy Salyer was wanted for flagrant non-support and a parole violation.

Deputies were given consent to search the trailer and reported finding a box containing needles and a crystal-like substance believed to be “Ice.” In addition, deputies reported finding 18 white and five orange pills believed to be Suboxone.

Deputies also recovered a .25-caliber handgun. Records indicated Nancy Salyer was a convicted felon and thus prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Lowell Salyer was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and giving an officer a false name.

Nancy Salyer was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felony, resisting arrest and giving an officer a false name. In addition, deputies served her with the outstanding warrants.

Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
