Whitley man killed in crash in Lexington

Date:

A Corbin man was one of two people killed Saturday morning in a head-on crash on I-75 in Lexington.

The Fayette County Coroner’s office identified the victims as 42-year-old Chad Taylor of Corbin and 40-year-old Michael Jones of Leslie County.

Police say Taylor’s 2001 Mazda Protégé sedan was going the wrong way and struck Jones’ 2002 Mercury Villager minivan in the southbound lanes near exit 120 just before 1 a.m.

It appears that Taylor had turned onto the exit ramp off of southbound I-75 from Ironworks Pike,” said Brenna Angel, a spokesperson for the Lexington Police Department.

Angel said Taylor and Jones were each pronounced dead at the scene.

An 82-year-old male passenger in Taylor’s vehicle was transported by ambulance to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Two female passengers in Jones’ vehicle were also taken to the hospital.

Police said speed was a factor in the crash.

Angel said there was nothing to indicate that either drugs or alcohol was a factor.

Angel said southbound I-75 was closed until approximately 4:30 a.m. Two lanes of traffic were opened at that time. The scene was cleared by 5 a.m.
