Mandy Smith lead all scorers Tuesday night with 26 points as the Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats (7-16) downed The Lady Jackets of Williamsburg, 53-41.
Williamsburg’s Kelly Bryant started off the scoring just thirty seconds into the game. A short jumper by Smith leveled the score just fifteen seconds later.
Smith and Williamsburg’s Julia Apple then began to put on a clinic, scoring five points each within the next four minutes, tying the game once again at 7-7.
Smith broke the deadlock with just under three minutes to play giving her team a 9-7 advantage.
At the 1:45 mark Bryant hit a jumper to bring Williamsburg within one. Quick baskets by Lynn Camp’s Whitney Myers and Brandie Noe gave the Wildcats a 13-10 lead at the end of the quarter.
Throughout the second quarter the Lady Cats kept Williamsburg on their heels. Smith dumped in seven to counter Apple’s six second-quarter points as Lynn Camp led at the break 24-20.
In the third quarter Lynn Camp outscored the Lady Jackets 12-8. Baskets by Smith and Noe propelled the Cats to a 36-28 lead going into the final eight minutes.
Williamsburg fought hard to overcome the deficit, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Lynn Camp hit foul shots down the stretch and kept the Lady Jackets winless for the month of February.
Lynn Camp will be back in action Friday night at Richmond Model.
Williamsburg (5-18) will have two games to close out the season as they host OBI Thursday night, and travel to Barbourville Friday.
