Williamsburg police searching for suspect in gas station robbery

Date:

Police are searching for an unidentified white male, who robbed the Direct gas station in Williamsburg late Monday night.
Williamsburg Police Detective Wayne Bird said the suspect entered the store shortly before 11 p.m., armed with a semi-automatic handgun, and took an undetermined amount of cash.
“He demanded cash from behind the counter. The clerk didn’t want to give him the cash, and he assaulted the female clerk, took the cash, and ran south toward the interstate,” Bird said.
The clerk, who suffered minor injuries, described the suspect as a white male about 6’3″ tall weighing about 140 pounds, and having brown eyes. The suspect was last seen wearing a black, pull over sweat shirt with white writing on the front, and a full face mask.
Bird said tracking dogs were brought out, but police were unable to come up with any leads.
So far there are no suspects.
If caught, the suspect is facing a first-degree robbery charge.
Williamsburg Police Officer Brad Nighbert assisted with the investigation as did members of the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and the Kentucky State Police.
Anyone with information concerning the robbery should contact the Williamsburg Police Department at 549-6038.
