The defending region champion Corbin Lady Hounds were eliminated Saturday afternoon in surprising fashion by the Jackson County Lady Generals.
Jackson County jumped out to an early lead over the Hounds and kept their foot on the gas, going on to win convincingly, 63-43.
Corbin found themselves in a hole early, trailing 19-10 after one quarter of play. Things got much worse in the second quarter, with the Generals outscoring the Hounds 23-4 to take a 42-14 lead with them into the half.
Corbin managed to outscore Jackson by just one point in the third quarter, 13-12, and they bested the Generals 16-9 in the fourth, but it was much too little, and much too late.
Jackson County junior Kylee Shannon was dominant, scoring a game-high 26 points. The Lady Hounds were led by junior Bailey Stewart, who scored 16.
With the loss, Corbin ends their season at 22-10. Jackson County, now 22-9 on the year, will meet the North Laurel Lady Jaguars Sunday afternoon in this year’s regional finals.
