W’burg unveils three new bronze statues

Date:

Williamsburg residents and visitors now have some new public art pieces that they can check out.

A total of three new bronze statues are in the process of being installed.

One of the new statues in front of the old Whitley County Courthouse depicts a little girl with a cat while another new statue in front of the judicial center depicts a little girl chasing a dog, which has a leash behind it.

A third new statue will be installed at City Park near the entrance to the youth baseball fields. It depicts a little boy from the 1920s era pitching.

Once the statue at City Park is installed, it will mark nine statues that the city has had installed since last fall.

Mayor Roddy Harrison got the idea to install the statues following a trip to Blowing Rock, North Carolina about six years ago.

Scenes depicted on other statues include: an old couple reading a book together, two children on a tri-cycle, and a family sitting together on a bench.
