Single vehicle motorcycle crash Monday claims life of Corbin woman

Date:

A single vehicle motorcycle crash in southern Laurel County claimed the life of a Corbin woman late Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:03 p.m. about seven miles south of London on US25.

Investigators report that apparently a 2007 Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound on US25 when it lost control ejecting both the male driver and female passenger, according to a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department release.

The driver, Randy Schenk, 54, of Corbin, was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County transported the passenger, Sherry Schenk, 48, to Saint Joseph London hospital where she died a short time later from her fatal injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The crash and subsequent investigation caused a portion of the roadway to be shut down for nearly two and one-half hours.

The crash is being investigated by the London-Laurel County Accident Reconstruction Team, which is comprised of Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Mink, Deputy Joe Breeding, London Police Lt. Ryan Jackson and London Police Officer Hobie Daugherty.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Austyn Weddle, Deputy Zach Allen, Lily Fire and Rescue, London-Laurel Rescue Squad and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

The Laurel County Coroner’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
