Betty L Claxton, a beloved member of the Corbin community, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024 at Baptist Health in Corbin, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 7, 1947, in Whitley County, Kentucky, and spent her life dedicated to her family and her work as a cook at Oak Grove Elementary.
Betty is survived by her children, Tammy Mobley (Ken), Danny Moore (Jayma), Scott Claxton (Kim), Stevie Claxton (Tina), and Betsy Sergent (Scott).
She also leaves behind her brothers, Harmon Saylor (Fay), Jim Rhoades (Doris), and John Rhoades (Jill); as well as her sisters, Kathy Eckstein (Fred), Karen Strickland (Herschel), and Sally Strickland; sister-in-law, Gail Rhoades; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family to mourn her passing.
A funeral service to honor Betty’s life will be held at Croley Funeral Home on Saturday, August 10, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Matthew McKinney officiating. A public viewing will start at 11:00 am.
Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest at Wofford Cemetery in Williamsburg, Kentucky, at 3:00 pm.
Betty’s strength, warmth, and dedication to her family and community will always be remembered. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cal Claxton; father, Clarence Saylor; mother, Stella Rhoades; brother, Gentry Rhoades; sister, Carrie Lou Sykes; granddaughter, Tamara Campbell; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Strickland.
