Billy Joe Smith, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 55. Known by all as Billy, he was born on January 22, 1970, in Pineville, Kentucky.
His devotion to his family and his firm belief in love and kindness were hallmarks of his character.
Billy served with honor and distinction in the United States Navy as a combat veteran during the Gulf War, stationed onboard the USS Wisconsin.
He resided in Williamsburg, Kentucky, where his hobbies of hunting and woodworking brought him great joy, as did his beloved dog, Poncho. Billy’s love for his family was paramount and defined his life. His legacy is not only his service to his country but also his great love for his family.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Helen Smith; his children, Neil Smith, Helen Smith, Carol (Jeff) Smith, Billy (Adriana) Smith, and Dylan Phillips; and his grandchildren, Ashley Siler, Michael-Anne Reid, Little Daniel Siler, William John Smith, Ivy Lavada Smith, Clayton Charles Smith, Victor Andrew Smith, Axton Joe Smith, Kennidee Sue Smith, Josh Smith, Riley Smith, Aaron Smith, Drake Smith, and Layla Marie Smith. Billy is also survived by his father, James Smith; his siblings, Kim (Brent) Goins and Jimmy (Jennifer) Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Smith; daughter, Marie Smith; and brother, Ed Smith. Special thanks to Billy’s sister Kim Goins for all that she has done to provide help and support during this tough time for the family.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 11:00am, and the funeral service will follow at 1:00pm. Both will be held at Croley Funeral Home, located at 103 South 2nd Street, Williamsburg, Kentucky.
