Three Dog Night to play at Corbin’s NIBROC Festival

Date:

The first musical acts for Nibroc has been announced as pop music group "Three Dog Night" will take to the main stage Saturday, Aug. 14 along with americana singer Paul Thorn.

The group, which released its first album in 1969, titled "Three Dog Night," is known for hits including "Joy to the World," "Mama Told Me," "Shambala" and "Black and White,"

"From 1969 to 1974, nobody had more top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets," according to the band’s website, www.threedognight.com.

The band’s most recent album was a hits collection to celebrate its 35th anniversary, released in 2004.

"Any groups’s scheduling dictates what we end up with," said Bruce Carpenter, director of Corbin Economic Development Agency. "Before it didn’t route well. I was able to negotiate and make it happen this year."

The show they put on is a great show.

Though the band still performs its hits while on tour, it is adding new music as well, releasing a single in 2009 that included "Heart of Blues" and "Prayer of the Children."

Thorn, who was born in Tupelo, Miss., has released nine CDs, the latest entitled "Pimps and Preachers."
Thorn said the title comes from his time growing up in Tupelo with his father the preacher and his uncle the pimp.

"I had never met him before, so when he came back to Mississippi he had all this street wisdom and I started hanging around him as well as my father. Thorn said of his uncle when discussing the album on his website. "My father was my mentor, but I learned a lot from my uncle too. Everything I’ve accomplished has been influenced by the time I spent around these two men."

Thorn added his uncle gave up the lifestyle and he is still very close to these two men who had so much influence on his life.
Carpenter said Thorn played Nibroc in 2009 and was a big hit with his songs about his colorful life.

"We have been asked "when are you going to bring him back," Carpenter said.

The concert will be at the main stage at corner of Third and Depot streets.

"Paul will hit the stage about 7:30 and Three Dog Night is at 9:30," said Carpenter
