THREE-PEAT

Date:

The Corbin Redhounds captured their third straight district title and will be making their seventh straight trip to the Region 16 Soccer Tournament next week after knocking off no. 1 seed South Laurel in the championship game Wednesday night at North Laurel.

The two-time defending region champions scored in the first half to take a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals on a muddy field at North Laurel. Junior Drew Farley drew first blood in the game.

South Laurel came back to tie the game late in the second half and force the overtime period. In the first 10-minute overtime, senior forward James Grinter put the winning goal in the net.

The Corbin defense held on for the win giving the Redhounds the district title for the third year in a row.

Check out next week’s News Journal for more details and coach Armodo Cima’s interview.
