Corbin boys take golf title

Date:

The Corbin Redhounds have won the Region Nine Golf Tournament at Wasioto Winds in Pineville.
The Redhounds beat out North Laurel and Somerset, who were tied for second at presstime.
Corbin finished the 18-hole course with a 312 while North Laurel and the Jumpers were tied at 315.
“This is the first time since I have been coaching the boys or girls that Corbin has won the region in golf,” said Coach Brad Harris.
“And the most impressive thing about winning the region this year is the fact that we don’t have any seniors on the team,” he added.
The Redhounds were lead to the title by freshman John Morgan Hamilton, who finished the day with a two-over 74.
He was joined in the seventies by freshman Eric Jones with a 78 and sophomore Ryan Williamson with a 78
Freshman Chandler Maguet finished out the Corbin scoring with an 82. Junior Jordan Maquet had a 91 for the afternoon, but only the top four scores are counted.
The Redhounds will advance to the Leachman Buick-Pontiac-GMC/KHSAA Golf Tournaments next week in Bowling Green.
The boys’ tournament will be held at the Bowling Green Country Club, October 9-11.
“The boys are real excited,” said Harris. “This is the first time Corbin has won the region in a long time.”
“I can’t even remember the last time Corbin has won the region,” said Harris.
“I’m really proud of the guys, they have worked very hard since early in the summer. They have played in a lot of tournaments and it has paid off,” added Harris.
