Racially charged graffiti scrawled on mixed-race couple’s home, police say

Date:

Police are investigating apparent racially motivated graffiti scrawled in spray paint on the side of local couple’s home.
According to Corbin Police Officer Glenn Taylor, Jr., police were called to a home on First Street at about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning after a couple that lives at an apartment there noticed the writing.
“They went out to Wal-Mart and a couple of other places and when they got back, someone had painted this on the house,” Taylor said.
The reddish-brown spray-painted letters read: “Corbin don’t like niggers. Get out now.”
Taylor said the apartment was occupied by Charles Chase and his wife Marlena John. Chase is white, his wife is black.
“I’ve talked to some local thugs. Usually if somebody does something like that, they will brag about it. They are usually young, too,” he said.
Taylor said he’s got few leads in the case, but plans to investigate further. The couple, he said, was new to Corbin and appeared to be in the process of moving.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time to investigate, especially since it is racially motivated.”
