Heading to Bellarmine

Date:

New Bellarmine basketball coach Scotty Davenport landed a gem when he signed Corbin High School senior Andrew Parks.
Parks, the News-Journal 50th District Player of the Year, decided on the Louisville school after his on-campus visit. “I went up there on college day and really liked the campus,” said Parks. “I think I would be happy there even if I wasn’t going to play basketball, but I am really glad I get to play ball there.”
Parks was named the KHSAA/National City Bank’s “Sweet 16” All-tournament team after leading the Redhounds to the quarterfinals of the 2005 state basketball tournament. He left his mark on the state tournament finishing as the second leading rebounder (34) in the tournament despite playing in only two games. He also scored 42 points in the two games against first-region foe, Lone Oak and second-region king, University Heights.
He was the state tournament’s leading defensive rebounder with 25 boards in the two games played.
Parks said he is looking forward to the challenges. “I know I will have to make the usual college transitions, just going up there and leaving home.”
“I know I am going to have to work harder,” said the Harry Taylor Scholarship winner.
Be sure to check out Wednesday’s edition of the News Journal for reactions from Corbn coach Tony Pietrowski and Bellarmine coach Scotty Davenport.
