West Knox, Lily firefighters battle structure, brush fires in Gray

West Knox and Lily firefighters spent several hours Friday evening battling a combination structure and brush fire in Gray.

West Knox firefighters were paged to the scene on Ky. 233 just after 4 p.m.

ky-233-fire-1Dispatchers reported that two abandoned buildings were burning.

When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered that the two buildings were engulfed in flames. In addition, the overgrown brush on the property was burning in several places.

A neighbor who watched from across the road as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze said the residents at the property had been burning off the land throughout the day.

Several areas of scorched earth could be seen.

233-fire-2The neighbor added that one of the resident’s children had knocked on his door earlier asking for a fire extinguisher.

As the fire continued to spread, Lily Fire Department was paged to the scene for equipment and manpower.
