Former Corbin commissioner Alan Onkst dies

UPDATE: Funeral arrangements for Alan Onkst have been announced.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church in Corbin.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church.

A former Corbin city commissioner and public servant died Tuesday night.

Alan Onkst had previously served on the Corbin Tourism Commission and, at one time as a sheriff’s deputy and Corbin Police officer.

In addition, the Cobin High School alum was an active member of the Redhound Varsity Club. Onkst graduated in 1975.

“Corbin lost a public servant. A daughter lost her daddy. The Redhounds lost a true fan,” Constable Ron “Bubba” Bowling wrote on his Facebook page upon learning of Onkst’s death.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
