Lily man charged with fleeing the scene of crash, DUI

Date:

A Lily man was arrested Saturday night in connection with a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jason A. Wells, 42, on charges with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence – second offense, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving on a DUI suspended license.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies were called to the scene where Wells had allegedly driven from the scene of the crash.

At approximately 11:35 p.m., deputies located the vehicle on the side of Ky. 363 near Maple Grove Road.

Acciardo said a suspect, later identified as Wells, was located with the vehicle.

“It was near the scene where it had been taken,” Acciardo said noting the owner stated that Wells had borrowed the vehicle but failed to return it.

“It is more like unauthorized use of a motor vehicle,” Acciardo said of the situation adding that deputies advised the owner concerning the option of securing a warrant.

Upon further questioning, Acciardo said that Wells did admit to fleeing from the scene of the crash.

Wells was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
