Jerry Hamblin, Jr., age 91, of Nevisdale passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at his home. He was born March 9, 1930 in Whitley County, KY to the late Jerry Hamblin, Sr. and Rachel Powers Hamblin. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Junella Engle Hamblin; four brothers and their wives, Raymond and Lucille Taylor Hamblin, Glen and Lavada Veach Hamblin, James D. and Edith Drake Hamblin, Delbert and Alma Randle Hamblin; and a sister-in-law, Sue Taylor Hamblin.
Jerry served in the United States Army in Austria and Germany. He was a bricklayer by trade and fronted the bluegrass band “The Patterson Creek Raiders” for over 30 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Pierce Dant Hamblin VFW Post 3167 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Whitley County Historical and Genealogical Society, a Kentucky Colonel, and spent many years as a firefighter for the Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by one brother, Robert Carl Hamblin of West Alexandria, OH; numerous nephews and nieces, and many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral service was Friday, October 29, at Ellison Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome McCullah officiating. Interment was in Powers Cemetery.
