Baptist Health Corbin medical staff award 19 academic scholarships

Each year Baptist Health Corbin’s medical staff awards scholarships to recognize and reward academic accomplishments of healthcare students, and recently handed out 19 academic scholarships to local students.

“These scholarships are awarded to students from the Tri-County area in order to keep our greatest resources close to home,” said David Worthy, MD, Chief Medical Officer.

Recipients must be from the Tri-County area and currently be enrolled and working on a healthcare related degree. Of the 19 scholarships, seven are in medicine, five in nursing, one in optometry, two in pharmacy, one in physical therapy, one in physician assistant, and two in speech/language pathology.

There were four special scholarships awarded, which were funded by the medical staff and Baptist Health Corbin. To be eligible for one of these scholarships, the students have to be medical students.

Sarah Gibbs was awarded the annual $2,000 Rod Weisert Memorial Scholarship.

Makayla Colby was awarded the annual $2,000 Mohammad Jawed Memorial Scholarship.

Cody Evans was awarded the annual $2,000 Truman Perry Memorial Scholarship.

Hollie Clifton Bishop was awarded the annual $2,000 Danny Struck Memorial Scholarship.

2024 recipients of the $1,500 Medical Staff Academic Scholarships are: Karalee Hale, Lindsey Jones, Madeline Lewis, John Lowe, Kandace Messer, Sydney Prakash, Mary Chasity Snyder, Emily Bolinger, Madison Fields, Chloe Lundy, Carlie McArthur, Keira Monhollen, Camille Overley, Devyn Sams and Josie McHargue.
