UPDATE: Late Thursday evening, the Whitley County Sheriff's office shared the following information regarding a shooting in Corbin that resulted in the death of a two-year-old child: "On Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 9:51 AM the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to 75 Martin Road in Corbin in reference to a child that had been accidentally shot by another child. The Corbin Police Department and the Corbin Fire Department both responded to the scene and arrived prior to sheriff department personnel. The child, later identified as 2-year-old Milo Brooks, was transported by the Corbin Fire Department to Baptist Health - Corbin where he was pronounced deceased. The Corbin Police Department has revealed the identities of the two men who were involved in a single-vehicle fatal collision on 5th Street Road in Corbin early Sunday morning. A CPD press release Sunday afternoon said, "On September 3rd 2023 at 0640 hours, The Corbin Police Department responded to a call of a single vehicle collision on 5th Street in Whitley County. Upon Corbin Police Officer's arrival the driver of the vehicle, James Barnes age 25 of Lily, had a strong smell of alcoholic beverage on his person and apparent injuries." Crowds of NIBROC attendees were sent fleeing in panic Friday night after a firearm was allegedly fired during the festival, though officials report that no firearm had been discharged and no one was injured. The person responsible for causing the hysteria has reportedly been arrested. Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, droves of festivalgoers could be seen running away from Depot Street, prompting those in attendance at the concert to soon follow suit. One person was injured late Saturday afternoon when an older model Toyota pickup truck apparently struck a church porch. The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Gordon Hill Pike and Barton Mill Road. The truck apparently struck a porch on the Deliverance Church causing relatively minor damage to the porch. Multiple Corbin Police officers and Corbin firefighters responded to the scene and treated an occupant in the truck until a Whitley County EMS unit responded a few minutes later. A PHI Air Medical helicopter landed later landed at the old Corbin Civic Center where an emergency landing zone had been set up by the Corbin Fire Department.

Kentucky State Police and the Whitley County Sheriff's Department responded to a fatal collision near the intersection of KY 90 and US25W (Cumberland Falls Highway) Saturday afternoon. The sheriff's department announced about 5 p.m. that the road was closed due to the fatality, but was expected to reopen about 6 p.m. Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation. The Corbin Police Department is reporting that it has received a report from Baptist Health Corbin about a company soliciting money for a T-shirt project in the hospital's name, which is a scam. The company, which is calling itself Promotional Specialties International out of Ft. Worth, Texas, is calling local businesses in Corbin to solicit money for sponsorships on a breast cancer awareness T-shirt in the hospital's name. "This is a scam. This is not an approved project nor an approved contract with Baptist Health Corbin," the Corbin Police Department wrote in a release.

The Corbin Police Department has released the identities of the man and woman who sustained gunshot wounds Tuesday evening, July 11, outside a residence near the intersection of Scuffeltown Road and Fifth Street Road in Corbin. The press release states: On July 11, 2023 at 5:35 p.m., the Corbin Police Department received a call of gunshots in the area of 5th Street Road and Scuffletown Road. Upon officer's arrival, a black Chevrolet Equinox was found in a ditch on 5th Street. Corbin Police Officers located a male and a female subject approximately 100 feet away in a wooded area. The Corbin City Commission voted to terminate a city employee during a special called meeting Wednesday morning. During the 8:30 a.m. meeting, the commission voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel and take action as a result thereof, which might lead to discipline or dismissal of an individual employee. After going into executive session, the commission met in closed session inside the city manager’s office. At 9:34 a.m., the commission returned to executive session, and Corbin City Attorney Bob Hammons announced that no formal action was taken during the executive session. Update: The Whitley County Sheriff's Department announced at 3:30 p.m. on June 2 that the missing juvenile has been located. Original story The Whitley County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's assistance in an attempt to locate a missing teenager. Joshua Johnson, 17, is from the Louden/Gatliff area. He was last seen on June 1 at 2:30 p.m. wearing blue jeans, a Bass Pro hat, and a dark colored, short sleeve shirt. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Whitley County E-911 Center's non-emergency number at (606) 549-6017.

UPDATE: The Williamsburg attorney arrested Wednesday morning on DUI charges while on his way to court has recanted his initial statements regarding the incident, in which he called his arrest "politically motivated." James Wren, 67, notified the News Journal sometime Thursday evening that he would be withdrawing a motion to dismiss that he filed in the case of Carl Amos Moses, Jr., 27, of Williamsburg, who is facing attempted murder and other charges. A trial was already underway in that case, with jurors being seated and evidence beginning to be presented Tuesday.
