The Corbin Police Department has released the identities of the man and woman who sustained gunshot wounds Tuesday evening, July 11, outside a residence near the intersection of Scuffeltown Road and Fifth Street Road in Corbin. The press release states: On July 11, 2023 at 5:35 p.m., the Corbin Police Department received a call of gunshots in the area of 5th Street Road and Scuffletown Road. The Corbin City Commission voted to terminate a city employee during a special called meeting Wednesday morning. During the 8:30 a.m. meeting, the commission voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel and take action as a result thereof, which might lead to discipline or dismissal of an individual employee. After going into executive session, the commission met in closed session inside the city manager’s office. At 9:34 a.m., the commission returned to executive session, and Corbin City Attorney Bob Hammons announced that no formal action was taken during the executive session. Update: The Whitley County Sheriff's Department announced at 3:30 p.m. on June 2 that the missing juvenile has been located. Original story The Whitley County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's assistance in an attempt to locate a missing teenager. Joshua Johnson, 17, is from the Louden/Gatliff area. He was last seen on June 1 at 2:30 p.m. wearing blue jeans, a Bass Pro hat, and a dark colored, short sleeve shirt. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Whitley County E-911 Center's non-emergency number at (606) 549-6017.

UPDATE: The Williamsburg attorney arrested Wednesday morning on DUI charges while on his way to court has recanted his initial statements regarding the incident, in which he called his arrest "politically motivated." James Wren, 67, notified the News Journal sometime Thursday evening that he would be withdrawing a motion to dismiss that he filed in the case of Carl Amos Moses, Jr., 27, of Williamsburg, who is facing attempted murder and other charges. It is unclear why a Whitley North Elementary School student allegedly injured another student with a kitchen knife that he brought to school Monday morning. Whitley County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Dingess said that the student with the knife refused to talk to anyone after the incident, which occurred about 8 a.m. According to an automated call that Superintendent John Siler sent out to parents Monday, the student used the knife to injure a classmate in the shoulder. Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an incident Monday morning involving a Whitley North Elementary School student, who brought a kitchen knife to school and injured another student. A Corbin man accused of beating a three-year-old child to death while babysitting her in February and the child’s mother were both indicted Monday morning by a Whitley County grand jury. Jordan Blake Taylor, 22, and Alexandra Ward, 20, were named in separate indictments in connection to Amoura Smallwood’s death. Taylor was indicted on charges of murder, first-degree sodomy and first-degree strangulation. A Corbin Primary student died Monday evening following an accident with a basketball goal. Corbin Independent School District provided the News Journal with a statement early Tuesday morning regarding the accident, which reads as follows: "Yesterday afternoon around 5:00pm, there was a tragic accident involving a Corbin Primary student. The young man was at his home playing basketball and the goal structure he was playing on, collapsed and fell on top of him. The student was transported to the UK hospital and later passed away.
