Update: Deceased in Friday evening shooting incident identified; murder suicide suspected

Date:

Update: Corbin police have released additional details regarding two people found shot to death in a vehicle at Baptist Health Corbin late Friday evening in what police say appears to be a murder suicide.

The two deceased are identified as Michael Salisbury, 39, and Shonda Parker, 35, both from the Gray community of Knox County. Both victims died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Both bodies were sent for autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing.

Corbin Police Detective Robbie Hodge said that police suspect the incident was a murder suicide.

“It appears the male shot the female and then shot himself,” Hodge said Monday morning.

The pair had children in common, but Hodge said he wasn’t sure whether they were still together as a couple at the time of their death.

Original story

A death investigation is underway after two bodies were discovered inside a vehicle in the Baptist Health Corbin parking lot late Friday night.
The Corbin Police Department has released the following statement on the situation:
On 8-2-2024 at approximately 11:30 PM, the Corbin Police Department was requested to Baptist Health Hospital to a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon K9 Patrolman Brentley Patrick and Patrolman Dorman Patrick’s arrival, it was determined that a male and female victim sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased by medical staff.
This incident is believed to have occurred inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the hospital. No patrons of the hospital or staff were in immediate danger and this event appears to have been isolated.
The bodies will be sent to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office for an Autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
At this time, the names of the victims will not be released pending a notice to the next of kin. An update will be provided as the investigation allows.
Detective Robbie Hodge is continuing the investigation. Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, Baptist Health Security / Medical Staff, and Whitley County Coroner’s Office assisted on scene.
