Williamsburg getting new Pizza Hut building

For fans of the Williamsburg Pizza Hut, there is some bad news and some good news for you. The bad news is that the longtime restaurant off Exit 11 will be closing at the end of business on Saturday, May 8. The good news is that the reason it is closing is so that the old store can be torn down and a new store can be built to replace it at the same location. Unemployment rates for March rise in Knox, Laurel, McCreary counties

Unemployment rates increased in Laurel, Knox, McCreary and Bell counties between February  2021 and March 2021, and stayed the same in Whitley County, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Whitley County Whitley County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.4 percent between February 2021 and March 2021. Whitley County’s March 2021 unemployment rate was also the same as the March 2020 unemployment rate. Unemployment rates decreased in Whitley, Laurel, and Bell counties between January  2021 and February 2021, increased in McCreary County during that same time period, and stayed the same in Knox County, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Whitley County Whitley County’s unemployment rate decreased from 5.6 percent in January 2021 to 5.4 percent in February 2021. Whitley County’s February 2021 unemployment rate was 0.4 percent higher than the February 2020 unemployment rate. Houchens Food Group donates $250 to Canadatown Fellowship Pantry

The Houchens Food Group donated $250 to the Canadatown Fellowship Pantry last week. The check was presented at the Save-a-Lot store in Jellico. Joyce Wilson, the director of the pantry, said they serve 60 families every month. The pantry regularly hosts food giveaways for anyone that wants to come. Wilson said the pantry had received between 400 and 500 bags of food from the $5 bag donations in the winter which is how the pantry became affiliated with the group.    Wilson said that she and the pantry’s secretary, Joyce Partin, decided to challenge other businesses or individuals to donate to the pantry. “If we can get more money, we can add more people...

Save A Lot in Williamsburg makes donation

Teddy Anders, the store manager for Save A Lot in Williamsburg, recently presented a $500 check to Travis Jones, the pastor at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. “Over the holidays for the month of November and December, we did a feed the needy holiday bag giveaway,” said Anders. “Customers purchase bags and they drop them off in the box. Once the box gets full, they comes by and picks it up.” The Williamsburg Save A Lot store met the silver tier with corporate. Toy Shop now open

The Toy Store on South Main Street in Corbin held a formal ribbon cutting Friday morning. Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus and Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Director Bruce Carpenter joined store owner Tonya Ridener and business partner Angel Henderson as they cut the ribbon. The store offers a variety to traditional toys including Hot Wheels cars.
