Strong storms pound local area over holiday weekend

It appears damage from Sunday and Monday storms in Whitley County likely came from straight line winds that got up to about 90 mph, and followed a similar path as the April 2 storm primarily going through north eastern Whitley County, said Whitley County Emergency Management Director Jerry Rains. Rains said that according to National Weather Service radar, the storm appeared to have started at Cumberland Falls in Whitley County, then went up through Dog Slaughter and Frankfort School Road, across Tidal Wave Road and into Woodbine before going along US25E towards Gray. W’Burg Ind. seniors hold parade Saturday to celebrate graduation

Photo by TIMOTHY WYATT Seniors from Williamsburg Independent School held a parade through town on Saturday to celebrate their pending graduation. The students packed their and their classmates vehicles, adorned them with decorations and drove from Kentucky Splash Waterpark through downtown Williamsburg and back. A police escort was provided for the parade. Senior parades became popular during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but have mostly went away. School officials said that it was something that this year’s senior class really wanted to participate in.

W’Burg Ind. grad walk held Friday for kindergartners and seniors

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT Each year, Williamsburg Independent School holds a grad walk through the halls of the school to celebrate kindergartners and seniors, the two groups of students who have an annual graduation ceremony. The kindergartners pair with a senior student for the walk, where the halls are lined with the rest of the student body clapping and cheering on the graduates. This year’s grad walk was held Friday at noon.

Corbin doctor says he should be able to work from home, but code board disagrees

If you are a doctor, who is licensed to practice anywhere in Kentucky, do you have the right to operate a medical clinic out of your home even if that home is located in an area zoned for residential use? It’s a question that the Corbin City Commission was asked to address during its monthly meeting Monday by Dr. Christopher Stokes, who is operating Kentucky Family Medicine LLC out of his 706 Maynor Street residence, and his attorney, W. Henry Graddy IV out of Versailles. If the issue can’t be resolved through the city commission, then the city will probably be facing a lawsuit that will be resolved in Whitley Circuit...

WCHS ag students give lessons on how greenhouse operation works

During their visit, the younger students got the chance to get hands on with some of the tools used for growing, and they were able to make some purchases just in time for Mother’s Day.

Jacket Farmers Market opens for the season

Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America makes special pit stop at David’s Steakhouse in Corbin

Photo by TIMOTHY WYATT Last Thursday, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America made a scheduled stop in Corbin to meet supporters and eat lunch at David’s Steakhouse. The charity ride included 150 motorcycles and covered over 2,100 miles in order to raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a camp dedicated to changing the lives of kids with serious medical conditions. CHS JROTC Cadet Jacen Post honored with Citation for Heroism Award after saving a life

Corbin High School JROTC Cadet Jacen Post did something last summer that most high school freshman don’t get the chance to do. He saved a life. Tuesday morning, Post, who is now a sophomore, received an honor from the United States Army that on average is only awarded to three people per year nationwide. He received the Citation for Heroism Award in a largely packed gymnasium at Corbin High School, and received a standing ovation. Col.
