W’BURG City School hosts Back To School Bash event

Williamsburg City School hosted its Back to School Bash on Aug. 21. Students met their new teachers, enjoyed popcorn, hotdogs, and other snacks, played on inflatables, and received free books and haircuts.

The 73rd Annual Nibroc Festival featured a variety of fun and exciting events for the community. Highlights included the Volleyball Tournament, Tomahawks Singer-Songwriter Contest, Fastest Kid in Town competition, and a 2-Mile Run. The festival also offered entertaining performances by Chad Rogers, Chris Janson, Dad's Mad, County Wide Sidewinders, and Sammy Kershaw, along with carnival rides for everyone to enjoy.

Summer Rains awarded Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship

Summer Rains of Corbin has been awarded a 2022 Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship from Grace Health. She is the daughter of Allen and Shawnda Rains and will receive a $3,000 scholarship award for her nursing career studies, which she will begin pursuing this fall following her graduation from Corbin High School. Grace Health awards the Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship to a student in each of its six service areas in Southeastern Kentucky. The scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors pursuing a career in nursing or a medical-related field. Knoxville Zoo makes special visit to Whitley Library

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT Walkin'  On The Wild Side: Kids of all ages packed the children’s area of the Whitley County Public Library Tuesday morning for a chance to see the variety of critters on hand during the Knoxville ZooMobile’s visit. The ZooMobile was part of the library’s “Ocean of Possibilities” summer event schedule. Among the animals shown during the presentation was Thor, a female bearded dragon.

At the end of the third week in the race for May Day Queen and Tiny Queen, the Ossoli Club has released the following results: First place in the May Day Queen race at this time is Gracelyn Fox. Mary Alice McVey is in second place and Camille Greer is in third place. In the race for Tiny Queen at this time, Whitley Roaden is in first place, Ella Smith second, and Harper Ellison third. Local author releases 5th children’s book

On March 26, local author Jennifer Marsee released her fifth children's book titled Never Mind, Nehemiah. Never Mind, Nehemiah is a mother's advice on how to handle life.   She tells her son life is a learning journey. We will learn what we must know and mistakes help us to grow.  Our souls show us what others try to hide.   Sadly, some people will play pretend and some relationships will end.
