Rep. Regina Bunch expects the Kentucky General Assembly to take up the issue of comprehensive tax reform in the near future. This was part of the message she delivered to members of the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce during its monthly membership luncheon Tuesday afternoon at the Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg. Classics, customs, and generally cool cars, trucks, motorcycles and even lawnmowers will be on display as the 2016 Cumberland Valley Cruise-In kicks off Saturday. Chris McQueen, one of the organizers of the event, said the cruise-in term is being taken literally this year, as the vehicles will meet at the parking lot outside The Corbin Center. Wallen’s Towing and Recovery has recovered one of its own. The company founded by Luther Wallen in 1933, has bought back the 1970 Ford F600 that Danny Wallen built into a tow truck for Luther. Soon after Luther died in 1986, the truck was sold to David Watkins of Pineville. “It was outdated so it was the right thing to do at the time,” Danny Wallen said of the decision to sell the truck. In an effort to preserve the company’s history, Daniel Wallen said he has been on a quest to find such relics and bring them home. A Knoxville, Tennessee man who is facing numerous charges stemming from a high-speed chase on I-75 that reached speeds of 150 mph last month, is back in the Laurel County Detention Center after he was stopped for speeding on I-75 in London and arrested for DUI. Officials with the Laurel District Court Clerk’s Office said 39-year-old Tonjai Hardy has pleaded not guilty to speeding – 15 mph over the limit and driving under the influence of alcohol Friday morning. Kentucky State Police, Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Mike Hamblin, arrested Hardy just after 10 p.m. Thursday. The Whitley County Sheriff's Department confirms that a fatal ATV accident occurred on May 3, 2016. Around 8 p.m. Deputy Joe Prewitt responded to Black Oak Road after a 911 call reported that a man had wrecked his four wheeler. Tracy Davenport, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley. No other motorized vehicles were involved, and speed is believed to be a factor. Investigation of the accident will continue by Dep. Prewitt and Coroner Croley.

A former owner of a local car dealership is scheduled to be sentenced in August after pleading guilty to two counts of bank fraud. Fifty-two-year-old Gregory Wilcheck of Corbin, who owned Myers Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac, Inc., Tri-County Cycles in Barbourville and Check Properties, LLC, pleaded guilty to two counts of defrauding a financial institution insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. According to the plea agreement, between October 2008 and November 2008, Wilcheck wrote numerous checks shuttling money between the businesses. When Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison was a teacher and school officials were trying to find out who was responsible for something bad that happened at school, he used to tell his students, "I know somebody saw them. I know somebody saw something." Then he told his students that he just wanted the information and wouldn't reveal who told him. It usually worked, and he never revealed who gave him the information. A federal grand jury has indicted two men for allegedly conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in Whitley County. In the indictment returned Friday in U.S. District Court in London, 33-year-old Bradley Justin Lawson of Corbin and 24-year-old Christopher L. Jones of Lily are each charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute 50 ore more grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine over a one-year period between August 2014 and August 2015. Rev. Ande Myers will be the keynote speaker Thursday during the 17th Annual Williamsburg Kiwanis Club National Day of Prayer Pancake Breakfast. Myers, who is pastor of First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, is a minister, a father, a runner, a coach and a musician in addition to being a former Williamsburg Kiwanis Club president.   Three people, including a three-year-old child, were injured Wednesday night when their car hydroplaned on the rain-slick roads and overturned on Interstate 75 near the 30-mile marker. According to Sheriff John Root, the driver of the 2015 Chrysler 200, identified as 23-year-old Brittney Neal of Dry Ridge, said she was travelling north on I-75 about 7:40 p.m. when the vehicle began to hydroplane and slip sideways on the wet roads.
